Gentlemen and players

"Over forty games with the word meeple in the title had been published as of 2024," I'm informed by Wikipedia. But I still had to Google it. You'll be pleased to hear it has nothing to do with popular beat combos, but it does feature in the title of a new apazine called Of Dice and Meeples about board, card, and related hobby games.

You know what an apazine is. From "amateur press association" -- and even I didn't need to look that up; I think the concept goes back to Lovecraft and beyond. Essentially it's a collaborative biofilm of zine content. Instead of a single editorial voice dictating the content, the publication is a compilation of independent submissions from its members. Each contributor writes their own pages which are then collated into a single document. How charmingly old school.

Of Dice and Meeples' first issue, dated May 2026, has just been released. It is an interesting look at what a community-compiled publication can offer today, presenting a variety of voices and niche perspectives that you don't always find on the larger gaming sites. You can get a free copy here.

In other news: Nick and I are working on a new card game concept that we think is pretty different from anything else out there. I know, "there's nothing new under the sun", but wait till you hear about this. More next time.
